Background

Crystal Developers answered the call in 2007 to purchase the surplus city land at 100 Main Street at Assiniboine Avenue for the construction of a 20-plus storey residential tower. After council approved the deal, however, the Upper Fort Garry Heritage Park gained momentum and in the end received the land.

The city worked with the developer to find a new downtown location and in June 2010 the two agreed on the former City Centre Community Office at 300 Assiniboine Avenue, just a block away from the original site.

Heritage Landing calls for a 25 storey tower, 22 of which would be a mixture of rental and owned residential units. Te remaining floors would be commerical. Elsewhere on the site seperate commercial space and a small town house complex are also planned.

Though the site is adjacent to Bonnycastle Park access to the walkway system and park will be maintained.
