Winnipeg launched it's Downtown Security Network last week.
It's part safety campaign with a one-stop number to reach the Downtown Watch 958-SAFE (7233) for minor issues and to request safe-walks. It's also an attempt at knitting together the numerous security forces, (including front-line retail and office staff), into a more seemless unit.
Good idea. Aside from the police and Downtown Watch there must be hundreds of guards, cameras, and other resources already in place. Best to have them all working together.
The network is also having a number of town hall meetings and workshops so if you live, work or play downtown you might want to check it out.
