The Capitol, ca. 1979 (source)
This site was home to the Capitol Theatre, one of Winnipeg's grand movie palaces, which opened in 1921, closed in 1990, and was demolished in 2002.
In 2003, CentreVenture, the city's arm's-length development company, sold the land to development company Shindico.
In February 2004, it was announced that Credit Union Central of Manitoba (CUCM) chose the site to be home of their new Credit Union Central. Shindico built and owns the building and leases it to CUCM.
The other original tenant is IT company Celero Solutions.
Construction began in May 2004 and the outer shell of the building was completed by March 2005. CUCM staff finished moving inby November 2005, though construction work continued into the following year.
The official opening took place on April 21, 2006.
